NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON IMPLEMENTATION OF NATIONAL EDUCATION POLICY 2020 IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS: CHALLENGES AND STRATEGIES

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Guru Nanak College has successfully hosted a two-day National Conference on “Implementation of National Education Policy 2020 in Higher Education Institutions: Challenges and Strategies” on June 21 & 22, 2023.

The Inaugural Session began with a welcome address by the Principal, Dr M G Ragunathan highlighting the achievements of the college. Dr Swati Paliwal, IQAC Coordinator & Head GNCCOI explained the theme of the Conference, by emphasizing its aims and objectives. She also touched upon the challenges in implementing the National Education Policy, and how the conference will aid in formulating strategies to overcome the same. The Proceedings of this NAAC-sponsored National Conference was released by the Chief Guest, Prof Saket Kushwaha, Vice Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University, along with the other dignitaries.

The Chief Guest of the event, Prof Saket Kushwaha, reiterated the importance of the implementation of the National Education Policy throughout the nation by 2030, addressing the drawbacks of the current education system. Col. (Prof). Y S Siddegowda, Vice Chairman, Karnataka State Council for Higher Education, the keynote speaker, deliberated on the implementation of NEP in the state of Karnataka. The timeline presented by him illustrated the academic reforms that took place in the state.

The inaugural ceremony also witnessed a prodigious moment of exchanging MoUs between Guru Nanak College and Rajiv Gandhi University for the establishment and promotion of inter-institutional teaching, research, faculty and student development programs, and cultural exchange for the furtherance of students and faculties. The three Technical Sessions were chaired by Dr Sony Kuriakose, IQAC Coordinator, Nirmala College, Dr Jerinabi, IQAC Coordinator, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, and Prof. M Krishnan, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Tamil Nadu respectively. The presenters had good discussions and deliberations on the challenges and strategies for implementing NEP 2020.

The valedictory Session was graced with the presence of the Honourable Governor of Tamil Nadu, Thiru R N Ravi. He remarked that NEP 2020, though being the third education policy framed in the nation, is the first in many ways as it is not a mere document but a revolutionary formula. The objective of this education policy is to equip the students with knowledge with which they can march into the world and make a place for themselves. He also stated that the implementation of NEP throughout the country would aid in building a new nation with a sense of who we truly are. The trust placed in the power of the youth can transform the nation and this can be done only with a good education policy in place.

In his concluding remarks, the honourable Chief Guest appreciated the college for collaborating with European Institutions and congratulated the Management and the team for organising such a conference on NEP 2020 which is truly beneficial for the students to become equipped and skilled to face the challenging world. Honourable Governor was welcomed by the guard of honour given by GNC NCC cadets, 1 TN BTY NCC, Madras Group -A.

Prof M Krishnan, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Tamil Nadu, the Keynote speaker stressed the importance of NEP 2020 and skill-based learning for higher education that will give more entrepreneurship and career opportunities.
