The PG and Research Department of Commerce organised a two days International Conference on “RESILIENT AND SUSTAINABLE ORGANIZATIONS FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT” on 15th & 16th March 2023, to commemorate the Golden Jubilee year of the Department of Commerce. The Department had its humble beginning in the year of 1972 and gradually became a post graduate department in the year of 1980. Successfully has grown its wings and became a full-fledged Research Department in the year 1994. At present, all the faculty members of the department are holding Doctorate degree in varied fields of commerce. The department has the credentials of producing 81 Ph.D scholars and currently guiding 26 scholars inclusive of JRF research fellows, Part time and Full- time scholars.
Over the years the undergraduate course is enjoying a very high demand among the young generations. The current academic year 2022-23, the department received 9800 application for 140 students having demand ratio of 1:70
The International Conference started with Tamil Thai Vazhthu and also invoking the blessings of Almighty by rendering the college prayer. Dr. M. G. Ragunathan, Principal, Guru Nanak College welcomed the gathering and congratulated the department for organising the International Conference on the most memorable occasion of Golden Jubilee year of the Department.
Dr. Gayathri Harikumar, organizing Secretary and Assistant Professor, PG & Research Department of Commerce introduced the Chief Guest Mr. Sivakumar S and Guest of Honor Mr. Sunil Jayaram to the August gathering.
Dr. T. K. Avvai Kothai, Dean School of Commerce and Head, PG & Research Department of Commerce highlighted the theme of the conference. In her address, she expressed the aim of the International Conference is to rediscover and adopt sustainable practices on various fields of business namely Banking and Finance, HR, Marketing, IT, Entrepreneurship Development, Management Practices and Economics and allied Fields for the development and growth in the contemporary business scenario.focusing on carbon credit, implementing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in business organizations which will help to bring about resilient and sustainable development. The inaugural session of the International conference came to an end with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. R. Tamil Selvi, Assistant Professor, PG and Research Department of Commerce.

Four Technical sessions were planned on the first day (15.03.2023) of Conference and the first Technical Session was Marketing,chaired by Dr. R. Shanthi, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, University of Madras and coordinated by Dr. M.Kavitha and Dr. C. Revathy, Assistant Professors of the Department of Commerce. The deliberations were made on the topics like e-service quality, Green loyalty, Impact of Social media on marketing, food delivery services, teaser advertisements and Green Marketing by the Paper presenters. Second Session was on Management Practices and other fields, rapporteur by Dr. J.Arul Suresh, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, Loyola College (Autonomous), Chennai. He emphasized how resilient leaders sustain their energy level to cope up with disruptive changes and overcome difficulties without engaging dysfunctional behavior and compromising the quality. The session was coordinated by Dr. R. Tamil Selvi and Ms.K.Rajeswari, Assistant Professors, of commerce Department. Dr. S. Shoba and Dr. R. Purushothaman, Assistant Professors, of commerce Department coordinated the Technical session III Banking and Finance and it was chaired by Dr. T.Usha Priya, Vice Principal & Head, PG Department of Banking & Insurance Management, Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai focusing on the thrust areas of Banking and Financial sector. Economics and Allied Fields was the fourth session rapporteur by Dr. T. Aryamala, Associate professor, & Coordinator – Shift ll, Asan Memorial College of Arts and Science, Chennai highlighting the importance of resilience in fostering investments and innovations for economic growth. This session was coordinated by Dr. P. Sridharan and Dr. P. Balaji, Assistant Professors, of commerce Department. On second day of the Conference (16.03.2023), three technical sessions were planned. Dr Shanthi S, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Commerce, Stella Maris College, Chennai, chaired the Technical session 5 Human Resources and it was coordinated by Dr.K.Umadevi and Dr. J. Mahalakshmi, Assistant Professors, of commerce Department. The rapporteur pointed out that Human resources management is concerned with achieving strategic outcomes, creation and management of capabilities for sustainable development of the organizations. This session was followed by the sixth Technical session on Entrepreneurial Development, chaired by Mr. Praba Santhanakrishnan, Chief Executive Officer, Cookr India and coordinated by Dr. C.P. Senthil Kumar and Dr. R. Geetha, Assistant Professors, of commerce Department The resource person highlighted that Entrepreneurship contributes to build resilient infrastructure promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation. Dr. Gayathri Harikumar , Organising Secretary and Assistant Professor of the department coordinated the last session of the International Conference Information Technology moderated by Prof. Sridhar Narayanan, Founder, G.A.M.E – Grand Alliance for Management, Excellence, Hon.Secretary of NHRDN Chennai Chapter & Chairman of Education Committee at MCCI. He commented that Technology is a crucial enabler of sustainability and resilience for accelerating Net Zero Transitions to create more comprehensive strategies to minimise waste, recycling, substitution of materials, transforming production processes, pollution control and efficient utilisation of resources. The hybrid mode was implemented to enable the paper presenters to present their Research papers on both offline and online to Encourage more exchange of ideas, thoughts and knowledge. The Valedictory session on the second day of the Conference was begun by invoking the Gods blessing followed by the Introduction of the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour by Dr.Gayathri Harikumar Organizing Secretary and Asst. Professor, PG & Research Programme of Commerce. The detailed consolidated Conference Report about the two days conference was presented by the Convener Dr.T.K.Avvai Kothai, Head PG & Research Department of Commerce & Dean, School of Commerce. Prof. Ranganathan. J, Honorary Consul of Myanmar, Chief Guest offered his Valedictory Address. In his address, he highlighted 5 B’s of Myanmar comprising Bharatanatyam, Buddhism, Burma Teak, Business and Body. He suggested the Integration of India and Myanmar in business and education for further prospects. He also mentioned that education has the power to kill Terrorism and economic sustainability can happen only by having social and environmental sustainability. The Guest of Honor Mr. K. Srinivas, Vice President Sales, Kokuyo Camlin Ltd, Mumbai, India delivered his valedictory speech. He stressed on learning and knowledge is the key to sustainability of an organizations. Investing in knowledge, innovation and technology helps the organization to sustain which leads to the overall growth of economy. Dr Umadevi. K, Asst.Professor, PG & Research Department of Commerce proposed the Vote of thanks and the International Conference came to an end by National Anthem. The Conference received more than 100 research papers from Academicians, Corporate delegates, students and research scholars from various Universities and Colleges across the nation facilitating to exchange ideas, thoughts and informative practices and research experiences. The conference had 7 technical sessions focusing on the thrive area of business and commerce. Out of the research papers received, 64 research articles after plagiarism check were selected and published in the conference proceedings bearing ISBN Number. The Retired Principals Dr. John Morais, Dr. Marlene Morais, Dr. M. Selvaraj and Retired Professor Mr. John Joseph Adaikalam graced the conference with their presence. Mr. Manjit Singh Nayar, General Secretary and Correspondent commended the department and also stated that hybrid format of the conference ensures accessibility to a diverse audience, thereby enabling extensive participations and engagement from various stakeholders. Dr. John Morais, former Principal of the college expounded the history of the department and recollected the services rendered by the stalwart professors for the wellbeing of the student community. Dr. Marlene Morais, Advisor and Former Principal, Guru Nanak College ignited the thoughts of ethical and moral values in the student’s behaviour. She also highlighted the importance of resilience and sustainability which influence the growth of younger generations. Mr. Sivakumar S, Founder and CEO of Capital Market Services, Singapore, Dubai & Melbourne was the chief guest of the Conference and emphasized the takeaways of World Economic Forum. He addressed that the organisations must prioritize to build resilient economy to meet future needs by diversification rather than decoupling. He further mandated that the organisations have to achieve a net zero future to balance the energy transition and energy resilience to bounce a competitive edge. Mr. Sunil Jayaram, Global Head, Enterprise of Future, Tech Mahindra, India was the Guest of Honor and in his key note address he proposed an initiative of building space economy,
