“Advancing Sustainability: A Global Convergence of Visionaries”
In an awe-inspiring showcase of scholarly dedication and an unyielding pledge to sustainability, the Guru Nanak Centre for Research and the G.S. Gill Research Institute orchestrated the International Conference on “Frontiers of Sustainable Research in Health Care, Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Management” (ICSURE – 2024). Dr. T.K. Avvai Kothai, Principal of the College welcomed the gathering, and she traced a comprehensive overview of the college’s legacy and its unwavering commitment to excellence in academia, research and outreach.

In his address Mr. Manjit Singh Nayar, General Secretary & Correspondent, drew comparison of the holistic principles of Sikhism and Sustainability. His words resonated deeply, underscoring the imperative for scientific inquiry to be guided by principles of conservation and sustenance. Dr. Marlene Morais, Advisor, said that the college was a forerunner in publishing the Guru Nanak Journal for Multidisciplinary Research way back 2012 itself. Dr. S. E. Noorjahan, the Convener of ICSURE 2024, elaborated on the conference’s theme, stressing the urgent need for collaborative action to address sustainability challenges across diverse sectors.

Prof. T. Arumugam, the esteemed Vice Chancellor of Thiruvalluvar University, highlighted the transformative potential of patent commercialization as a catalyst for progress in the realm of sustainable agriculture. His clarion call to pursue outcome based research impacted the attendees to intensify their endeavors. Dr. Roshan Kumar Yadav, the keynote speaker, presented the diverse flora in Nepal and its medicinal properties. Through captivating tales of untapped potential and the promise of commercialization, he painted a vivid tapestry of possibilities, urging all to harness the bounty of nature for the betterment of humankind. Dr. P. Aruna, Senior Scientist CSIR – Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, presented the path forward, showcasing the transformative impact of scientific inquiry on environmental stewardship and resource conservation. Dr. Sinnadurai Jameson Arasakesary, from the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka, delved into sustainable approaches for food security in Southeast Asia. He outlined strategies to combat hunger and ensure a bountiful harvest for generations to come. Dr. Sonam Tashi, a luminary from the College of Natural Resources, Royal University, Bhutan, resonated with the timeless wisdom of ancient traditions, calling for a harmonious balance between human well-being and ecological sustainability. Dr. G. Sekaran, an industrial consultant and former chief scientist, presented his groundbreaking research finding on Nano Porous Activated Cermet for Environmental Applications. His innovative solutions offered a glimpse into a future where technology and sustainability coexist in perfect harmony. Dr. Ponmurugan Karuppiah, from the Department of Botany and Microbiology, King Saud University, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, wove a spellbinding narrative of soil sustainability and the untapped potential of microbiomes in agriculture production. The ICSURE 24 Conference stands as a testament to academic collaboration, drawing a total of 457 participants across both online and offline platforms. This impressive turnout underscores the conference’s adaptability and widespread appeal within the academic community. Among these participants, 113 esteemed faculty members enriched the dialogue with their seasoned insights, while 144 students brought forth youthful perspectives and curiosity. Additionally, 200 research scholars showcased the cutting edge of academic research. Participants hailed from a multitude of prestigious institutions, including 8 international universities, 6 central universities, and numerous top-tier universities and colleges. This broad representation enriched the academic dialogue, fostering a comprehensive exchange of ideas, research findings, and pedagogical approaches across various disciplines. Given the hybrid nature of the conference, arrangements were made to accommodate presenters from various locations who faced difficulties attending in person. These presentations were conducted seamlessly through Google Meet, spanning 7 sessions over two days of online sessions (16.02.24 & 17.02.24). The online component featured a total of 156 oral and poster presentations, while 145 presentations were delivered offline. In total, 297 presenters shared their views and ideas on their research, contributing to the diverse and enriching dialogue of the conference. A special issue with Springer’s “Environmental Science and Pollution Research” with a 5.8 impact factor underscores a commitment to disseminating high-impact research findings to a global audience. As the curtains drew to a close, Prof. R. Velraj, Vice Chancellor of Anna University, delivered a valedictory address, reaffirming the importance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the importance for sustained research efforts to achieve them. The International Conference on “Frontiers of Sustainable Research in Health Care, Food, Agriculture, and Environmental Management” (ICSURE – 2024) stands as a milestone in the pursuit of sustainability, embodying the spirit of collaboration, innovation, and collective action that will shape a more sustainable future for generations to come.
