A defunct water fountain in a Greater Chennai Corporation park in Adyar has turned into a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Residents who frequent the GCC park near Kasturba Nagar say there are hundreds of larvae in the stagnant water. D Balaji of Kasturba Nagar Residents Welfare Association said the fountain has been defunct for two months.
"GCC should drain the water out, and close the fountain temporarily if it's not working. There are also scores of mosquitoes in the Buckingham Canal nearby," he said.
The park has a walking track, gym, tennis court and benches. With its entry near the OMR, hundreds of residents use it daily.
The Kasturba Nagar RWA has also lodged a complaint with Velachery MLA JMH Aassan Maulaana. "I will ask the park department to clear the fountain. If it's not working, it will be fixed," he said.
