CHENNAI: Residents of Srinivasa Nagar and Ram Nagar in Madipakkam are upset that their requests to repair the roads in the area have gone unheeded. The recent rain has made it worse for some 13,000 families who live there.
T V Hariharan, secretary of Srinivasa Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association, said “Arivoli street and Sundar Rajan streets linking Madipakkam baazar road with inner ring road have not been paved for more than a year. All the roads are damaged. Recently a truck overturned after it fell into a pothole.
“The association complained to the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) which directed it to Metro water. “There is an inter-departmental delay, resolving it would give us a solution,” Hariharan said.
“Work is in progress under the comprehensive water supply scheme in Madipakkam and once the testing is over Metrowater will provide the no-objection certificate to GCC. For now, the corporation can fill the potholes and can do some temporary work to improve the road condition. There is no need for NOC for such work,” said a Metrowater official.
A GCC official said they cannot lay the roads till the Metrowater hands them over. “We are concentrating on main areas such as Arivoli street and will move to the interior roads later. Fifteen loads of debris have been removed. We are doing everything we can,” he added.
Residents want the authorities to at least fill the potholes for now to reduce road accidents.
