CEREMONIOUS INAUGURATION OF SAHIBZAADE BLOCK at GURU NANAK COLLEGE

The Majestic Multi utility “Sahibzaade block” consisting of ground plus three floors was inaugurated on 15th August 2021. The College is celebrating its Golden Jubilee year and this memorable event is a milestone in the history of the Guru Nanak Educational Society.

Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi I.A.S.,Principal Secretary/ Commissioner, Greater Chennai Corporation, the Chief Guest inaugurated and unveiled the plaque. This building is to provide Offices and conference rooms for the various extension services of the College such as Guru Nanak Centre for Skill Development, Twinning programme of Pondicherry University, UPSC Coaching Centre and a Guest House for use by Guests to the College. On the first floor the Guru Nanak Medical Centre, to provide health care to the needy patients from the locality is Established. In his address, he appreciated the Governing Council of Guru Nanak Educational Society on the noble social service extended to the students and the society at large. He also made a special mention of the selfless service by GNES during the current pandemic, both in the first wave and the second wave too.Service to the migrant guest workers and also to the frontline workers, Mini ICU facility and quarantine Centres, in more ways than one. He applauded the dedicated service of the GNES, not only education to all sections of students, but also to various sections of the Society. The Sikhs are a true minority consisting of about 200 families in the Chennai and yet their services are extensive and reach a large section of the society.

The accomplished academician, Dr. Jai Deep Mahendra, Professor and Director of Postgraduate Studies and Research, Department
Of Periodontology, Meenakshi Ammal Dental College Chennai, Guest of Honour, inaugurated the Guru Nanak Medical Centre and applauded the members of the Guru Nanak Educational Society for their benevolent service that is extended to all sections of the society and presently including the healthcare sector too. Mr. Jasbir Singh Narula, Chairman, Planning Committee, Highlighted on the upcoming projects namely World Class Sports Academy with shooting range and other sports like Squash, Badminton and the proposed new CBSE block of the Guru Nanak Matriculation Higher Secondary School. Mr.Manjit Singh Nayar, General Secretary and Correspondent, GNES, traced the record growth of the College from student strength of 450 and Pre University and 3 UG Courses to a full- fledged UG, PG, Research and Extension activity Institution. The College in its 50th year offers 37 programmes (UG and PG) and 17 skill certificate courses and Ph.D. research in 8 disciplines with Student strength of 8000. He expressed his gratitude and thanked everyone for coming together in making the vision of Guru Nanak Educational Society reach great heights.

Mr. Rajinder Singh Bhasin, President, GNES, esteemed members of the Governing Council with their spouses, Dr. Marlene Morais, Advisor to the Management, Dr.M.G. Ragunathan, Principal, faculty members and administrative staff of Guru Nanak College, members of the Guru Nanak Matriculation Higher Secondary School and Special invitees graced the occasion.
