The IQAC and Counselling Cell of Guru Nanak College organised World Suicide Prevention Day on September 2022 in the college campus. Vice Principal Dr. N. C Rajashree, IQAC Coordinator Dr. Swati Paliwal, Counsellor Dr. Nafisa Jeddy, NSS Program Officers and Administrative Officer Mr. Selvaraj were present on this occasion. The programme began with a rally by the students with the slogan “No to Suicide” and other preventive measures. The rally was followed by a mime and street play by the NSS students and dance by G Unit. The Vice Principal Dr. N. C. Rajashree addressed the Gathering and stated that the decision to end one's life is wrong and leaves a painful mark and grief on their counterparts or family members. Dr. Nafisa Jeddy, Counsellor spoke on how to help someone who are struggling with suicidal thoughts. Many factors such as anxiety, depression, relationship problems, eating disorders, body image issues and more have led to an increase in suicidal ideation among students. She also gave an awareness on how to help someone having suicidal thoughts. 1. Listen without judgement and offer your support, with patience and empathy 2. Encourage them to seek help from a professional 3. Stay with them if you think they are in danger 4. Implement suicide prevention policies at a state level 5. Reduce associated stigma by raising awareness for suicide and mental health 6. Train health care providers and educators in suicide prevention
