His most excellency, the Honorable Governor of West Bengal, Shri. C. V. Ananda Bose honoured Guru Nanak College (Autonomous), Velachery with his distinguished visit on 4th March, 2024. The visit was a proud recollection of his memories associated with the college from 1972, where he started his career as a lecturer in the Department of English. In his sweet reminiscences he expressed the exponential growth of the institution over the 5 decades and appreciated the Management and the team for their extensive contribution towards the growth of the institution. It was a proud moment for the institution when His Excellency announced and bestowed various rewards such as 1.Ten awards of Excellence:- 5 for Faculty (Past and Present) 5 for Students (Past and Present) 2 for Non teaching staff Each award will carry a citation, cash award of Rs. 10,000 and a Plaque. 2.He proposed the Institute to hold a chair in the name of Guru Nanak in Raj Bhavan, West Bengal for Academic Research and Publications. The Chair will be headed by one of the faculty members of the college. 3.He has also extended an invitation to GNC to be the Nodal Institution for the cooperation of the South and East Zone in the upcoming project, 'Kala Kranti Mission', to promote Art and culture in India. The Governor was greeted and welcomed with a grandiose guard of honor upon his arrival. His excellency also embarked on a comprehensive tour of the campus, especially The Saragarhi Shooting Academy, exploring its infrastructure and the facilities provided. The Principal of the College, Dr. T. K. Avvai Kothai welcomed the honourable Governor and the other dignitaries, and presented a brief profile of the institution since its inception in 1971. Mr. Manjit Singh Nayar, the General Secretary and Correspondent, in his address, highlighted the major milestones achieved by the institution from 2008 till date. Before His Excellency's address, Shri Manish Joshi, IPS, ADC to the Governor mentioned that the Governor felt much indebted to visit Guru Nanak College and present the Governor's Cup of Excellence and Governor's Scroll of Honor as a token of gratitude for the dedication and commitment endeavored by the institution to the society. The content of the Scroll of Honor was read out by Shri Manish Joshi, before His Excellency handed it over to the General Secretary and the Principal of the College. In his Presidential Address, the honourable Governor, Shri. C. V. Anandha Bose compared the remarkable transformation of the college to his own life by proudly acclaiming: “ A great change that has happened here has also reflected in my humble life”. He also noted that though several changes have taken place in the institution, its “Inner strength has not changed.” He appreciated the institution's efforts towards an integrated approach to education through the Skill Development Courses, and the emancipation of women's power through Udayal Padai. The General Secretary and Correspondent thanked His excellency for recognising the efforts taken by the college and granting various opportunities to further our contribution for the welfare of the society. Dr. Swati Paliwal, Dean Academics, proposed the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to His Excellency for making the moment the most memorable one.
