Mega Cultural Festival on the theme “ Gender Egalitarianism “ was successfully conducted in Guru Nanak College ( Autonomous) accredited at A++ , Velachery , Chennai 42 , today 28.02.2023, With overwhelming participation of 1200 contestants including 800 woman students, adding a special focus , an extra credit to the theme “ valour of woman”, with a grandeur strength from 35 departments.
The cultural extravaganza was happening for three days from 28.02.2023 to 01.03.2022 with twenty events focusing on Gender equality and women rights. The theme event Ms.Lunaris , singppen the woman of valour was the highlight of the program. The young women of our GNC exhibited their silambam skills using various fighting tools like the stick, the sword and the spring weapon. They manouvred the fighting tools dexterously. On par with men they exhibited their bravery through somersaulting. It was a real feast for the eyes of the audience watching the brave young women of our college displaying their Martial arts. The audience were awestruck watching our women students performing with bravery. This is the need of the hour for very women students to empower herself with self defence technique.
Hundreds of woman students performed martial arts and folk arts and demonstrated the bravery and valour of woman. The Fine arts club and students council organized the grand event successfully, Their message through this mega cultural event was “ Art is not only for entertainment and celebration, art is a powerful tool to bring about a change in society. Our languages, religions, cultures, history, are all male centric. It is time to reconstruct everything from a gender neturalistic view.
History is full of heroes and its time to celebrate the sheroes. The objective of LUNARIS was to create awareness and sensitize the young generation towards gender equality and women rights through various art forms. Sex is a biological definition. It comes from nature . But gender is only a social and cultural construction. In an ideal egalitarian society the difference of gender will disappear and will have no meaning.
Singappen veerathamizhachi, Fashion walk- Ms & Mr Lunaris, Short film , theatre on women , Ship wreck, debate , Folk arts , Dance, Musical band were the major events focusing on the theme of gender equality. The program was was full of vibrance, energy , celebration and artistic discourses, clash of ideas , clash of minds and clash of counterpoints , yet at the end of the day it was unification of hearts. Majit Singh Nayar, Secretary & Correspondent , Dr.M.G.Ragunathan , Principal , and Dr Marlene Morais , advisor of the Institution felicitated the program and delivered their wishes for the student council and fine arts association. Winners were honored with a prizes and certificates. Winners and runners from both shifts were honoured and four overall trophies were given to the champio
