The 48th edition of the Chennai Book Fair will begin on 27-Dec-2024 with Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi inaugurating the event at 4.30 p.m.
A total of 900 halls will be set up with a 10% discount on all books at all venues. Stalls will be set up by 10 government departments, including the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation. The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department will also set up a stall for the first time.
Other publishers, including Penguin, Random House India, HarperCollins Publishers India, Simon & Schuster India, along with the American Consulate and British Council, will also participate in the fair.
According to S.K.Murugan, secretary of Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (Bapasi), a stall by Thirunangai Press LLP and a stall for braille publications have also been set up. Further, rest areas for senior citizens have also been set up at this year’s book fair. “We have also ensured there are better structures to prevent rains from affecting the fair like last time,” he added.
Free tickets will be distributed to school and college students to encourage the habit of reading.
The book fair will go on for 17 days at YMCA Grounds, Nandanam, concluding on January 12, 2025 and is open from 11 a.m. to 8.30 p.m.
